Effect of Cholecystectomy on the Role of the Gall Bladder in Fat Absorption.

چکیده
It is generally agreed that evacuation of the gall bladder enhances the digestion and absorption of fat. Clinical experience or phylogenetic considerations (Ivy, 1953; Schondube, 1955) are quoted in support of this opinion. Unfortunately convincing evidence is lacking. Some studies performed after cholecystectomy in man (Bucko and Dvorsky, 1957; Fedor and Fisher, 1960), in the dog (Heersma and Annegers, 1948), and in the cat (Ginter, Bobek, Blazek, and Cervein, 1963) indicate that the gall bladder may play a minor role in fat absorption. The rising incidence of biliary disease and of cholecystectomy stimulated us to a detailed study of this problem. The digestion (Krondl, 1961a, b) and absorption (Krondl, 1961c, d, e) of fat were compared in patients after cholecystectomy and in control subjects.

The chief function of the gall-bladder is to act as a reservoir for the bile secreted by the liver during the interdigestive period. This storage of bile is made possible by absorption of water, and the bile is thus concentrated three to ten times. Normally, the main biliary constituents, viz. bile salts, bilirubin, calcium and cholesterol, are not absorbed, but if the gall-bladder is obstructe...

Background: On of the most common gasterointrestinal disease is gallstone disease and it`s prevalence is 11%-36%in autopsies. If gallstone leads to symptoms and side effect cholecystectomy will be inevitable. Gastric infection due to H.P will cause several symptoms of which dyspepsia and epigastric pain are outstanding .Gall stones also usually causes epigastric and/or right upper quadrant pain...
متن کاملCharacteristics of cholesterol absorption by human gall bladder: relevance to cholesterolosis.
The characteristics of cholesterol uptake by 83 human gall bladders (obtained at cholecystectomy) were studied with a modified Ussing technique. Real and artificial biles labelled with 14C-cholesterol and 3H-dextran (the latter to correct for adherent mucosal bile) were used; all gall bladders absorbed cholesterol (average 3.5 nmol/cm2/minute). Recovery of the absorbed cholesterol from the tiss...
